Dr. Albert Hofmann ~ 1/11/06 - 4/29/08

Dr Albert Hofmann was an anonymous Swiss chemist - then he inadvertently created the mind-altering psychedelic drug that would shape popular culture for generations. It all began with a "peculiar" accident on a spring day in 1943 that reconnected Hofmann with the "deeply euphoric" visionary encounters he had experienced in nature as a boy. About death, Hofmann said, "I go back to where I came from, to where I was before I was born, that's all"
Dog Is My Co-pilot - April 16th, a day for Radio Circus to rejoice!

Last Friday, April 16, 1943, I was forced to stop my work in the laboratory in the middle of the afternoon and to go home, as I was seized by a peculiar restlessness associated with a sensation of mild dizziness. On arriving home, I lay down and sank into a kind of drunkenness which was not unpleasant and which was characterized by extreme activity of imagination. As I lay in a dazed condition with my eyes closed (I experienced daylight as disagreeably bright) there surged upon me an uninterrupted stream of fantastic images of extraordinary plasticity and vividness and accompanied by an intense, kaleidoscope-like play of colors. This condition gradually passed off after about two hours.
If I can't dance....you can KEEP your revolution...! ~sentiments of Emma Goldman

(Her) belief in personal freedom is highlighted in the story where Goldman was taken aside at a dance by a young revolutionary and told it did not become an agitator to dance. Emma Goldman wrote; "I insisted that our cause could not expect me to behave as a nun and that the movement should not be turned into a cloister. If it meant that, I did not want it. I want freedom, the right to self expression, everybody's right to beautiful, radiant things."
Workers of the world, awaken!
Rise in all your splendid might
Take the wealth that you are making,
It belongs to you by right.
No one will for bread be crying
Just one day for the Earth...?

Yes...we're a day late for the actual "celebration".
Will we also be a day late in reversing our course set for disaster?
Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.
According to the Fox's U-bet chocolate syrup website, the recipe for "the original Brooklyn Egg-Cream" is:

*Take a tall, chilled, straight-sided, 8oz. glass
*Spoon 1 inch of U-bet Chocolate syrup into glass
*Add 1 inch whole milk
*Tilt the glass and spray seltzer (from a pressurized cylinder only) off a spoon, to make a big chocolate head
*Stir, Drink, Enjoy.
The Other People

Old Leadfoot serves up a selection of songs that for one reason or another remind him of Summer.

June is just waiting, July is the beginning of the end. Where is a unperturbed, lasting summer? Nowhere else but in our thoughts during the winter. - Kersti Bergroth, Finnish writer
It's been 10 years since he left us... but instead of remembering his death we choose to commemorate his life on this, his birthday. Fortunately he left us a tremendous legacy of live recordings to enjoy and we celebrate his being by sharing the entire 1st set from a great night during the Grateful Dead's prime.

From the Fillmore West on March 3rd, 1969...
