Very Special thanks, 90+ photos and slideshow, upcoming East Coast meet-up event coming up

Dear friends, compañeras, allies, and friends who I will come to know soon who are working for a better world,

Special thanks to everyone who came out to the Radical Media Convergence event (either in person or by spirit *happy laughter*) organized by the Freeschool, the Radical road trip and folks at PeaceCommunities.org! You rock!

You will find over 90+ photos of the event here:
http://radicalevents.slide.com

A direct link is here:
http://www.slide.com/r/WPVXXTJ3sj_r1wQnQ3xAMZEjgModzl1Q

Special thanks to everyone who helped take photos. :)

Make sure you have your computer speakers on because there is music in the slide show (though very corny I must admit, the other selections I had to choose from were far worse I assure you!) *happy laughter*.

There will probably be more photos added later. John has some more photos and will send me a disc plus Pamela had a bunch of photos and I'll add a few of those too. :)

On another note...

I invite everyone to the Reuniting, Recreating and Relocalizing 2009 (East Coast Meet-up) taking place June 12-14th, 2009 in West Virginia. There will be workshops on creating multicultural communities, workshops on various systems used on the conference site such as rainwater collection, mini-solar power: small scale gardening; food preservation techniques; wild edibles; heating with wood; water conservation techniques and much more.

I will be giving the following workshop:

Workshop: Beyond Reporting the News. Is the second stage of the progressive movement to help create independent, self-sustainable activist communities rather than to simply criticize our oppressors?

Lauren, Bonnie, Fraanc, my friend Charles and many more wonderful folks, activists and couchsurfers will be coming from around the country to be there! We will leave the Baltimore area on the morning of June 12th to head to West Virginia by car and we invite everyone to caravan down with us. We would definitely like more drivers with cars to help out with the Rideshare if possible. :)

The new website is here: http://www.eventsforfree.blogspot.com

Free food, camping, workshops music and more! :)
Bring your instruments!

WooOOoooo HOOoooooooooooeyy!

Love ya'all!

Love for the people,
-T

Contents:

First 4 Minutes

The Amazing Song “Burn Down Town” by the Olympia, Washington based band, Liarbird.

Here are the Lyrics:

Liarbird - Burn Down Town

It started at the mill
Unwound was playing
in a garage across the Sound
(Puget Sound that is)
we heard Kai yell
"the mills burning down"
we all turned around
to see the flames flicker on the west side of town
the next thing you know
down burned those condos
right down the bay
*who's going around
burning down
all the abandoned
buildings in town
I don't know

some folks were happy
when the glass house burned down
during yo-yo (music festival)
they felt she was rotten
to the core
dope dealers and users
spent up her hope
long ago
Kai used to pick
plums from the trees
in that yard
he'd bring them to me
or whom ever he'd see
but now they're gone
****

Yard Birds was greater
than any other
building downtown
the ceilings were made
with thousands of beams
milled from the oldest
forest this town's
ever seen

Interview: Rick McKinnon, College Professor and Founder of www.Olyblog.net promotes racial attacks. Report bias at:206-339-9418

Interview: Evergreen Professor and Founder of www.Olyblog.net encourages usage of racial slurs and promotes racial attacks.

Written By T. Podcast Interview Conducted by T interviewing Ian, one of several former students of Rick McKinnon who have spoken out about Rick McKinnon's useage of slurs regarding African-Americans, people of color, women and the LGBTQ community.

Have a complaint about Rick McKinnon? Call 24 hours and leave a detailed message here: Report bias at:206-339-9418
Rick McKinnon's Photo and website are here: http://rickmckinnon.com/resume

Rick McKinnon, Ph.D., the Founder and maintainer for www.Olyblog.net has used his teaching position to encourage students to use racial slurs. He has used these racial slurs and encouraged students to use them under the guise that using them "reclaims" such words. He has used these racial slurs and derogatory remarks against people of color, the LGBTQ community and marginalized people such as n----r, f-g, and b----.

In this interview, one of his former students, Ian, bravely speaks out against this hate speech, and also explains how a woman who he knows closely also spoke out against the usage of such racial slurs in his class.

This is a very serious issue, because:
#1. This Professor is influencing students who once did not engage in hate speech, to do so afterwards
#2. This Professor has repeatedly made many of the best activists to feel uncomfortable due to his hate speech and he teaches at Evergreen State College which is a State Institution sponsored by the government, which is tax payers money. So it is your tax dollars that are enabling him to teach, promote and encourage hate speech to students who come from around the world.
#3. Many Neo-Nazi parties and Klansmen have also usage such hate speech in teaching positions to influence students into thinking that such usage of racial slurs is acceptable.

This is also a very serious issue because Rick McKinnon, as the founder and moderator of www.olyblog.net, a community media blog, in Olympia, Washington, has promoted racial attacks against people of color.:

Below is a Quote from a booklet titled: "Why We Need Multilingual Media That Supports People of Color And Marginalized People"" which describes the attack:

"All of these attacks were promoted, encouraged and reignited only after Ronnie [the booklet changes the author's name], the founder and maintainer of the English-only community blog [www.olyblog.net] then posted the below Thread at the top of the community blog (placed in a manner so that it would remain at the top of the page the entire day):"

You can read the entire booklet titled: "Why We Need Multilingual Media That Supports People of Color And Marginalized People" at http://www.LoveandDiversity.org

=========================

It should also be made known that Neo-Nazis in Olympia are making an increasing prsence in Olympia, which can be seen in the below news article published in Z Magazine.

The article was titled, “Olympia Community Stand Up to Nazis” and can be found at the below link.

http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?ItemID=9589

This article was written by Peter Bohmer who teaches the wonderful program known as "Alternatives to Capitalist Globalization."
More information about this course is found here: http://academic.evergreen.edu/b/bohmerp/sylaltneolib.htm

Between August 2005 and August 2006 I had the pleasure of receiving an email from Peter Bohmer inviting me to give a presentation in front of one of his classes describing the Annual A World Beyond Capitalism conference.

At one point in Peter Bohmer's article about the Nazi's in Olympia the article he states: "In Germany, pro Nazi groups are not allowed, given their history there. Given the history of slavery and genocidal attacks on Native Americans and continued racism here in the U.S., I question whether openly white supremacist hate groups should be permitted here."

Indeed, given the history of slavery and genocidal attacks on Native Americans and continued racism here in the U.S. which has taught racism to students in US government institutions for hundreds of years, one must also question why Professors in governement institutions who openly use racial slurs in their classrooms should be permitted to continue teaching in Evergreen State College, a government institution.

It should be noted while reading the article that the Neo-Nazis group decided to choose a Media Organization in Olympia to choose as their gathering place.

www.olyblog.net has become a media gathering place which promotes, encourages and reignites racial attacks against people of color and marginalized people… in the same way that Rick McKinnon, Ph.D., the Founder and maintainer for Olyblog.net has done in many of the classes which he has taught.

Title: "Northwestern Professor Denies Holocaust" found here: http://www.nnntv.org/viewstory.php?story_id_key=769

Northwestern Professor Denies Holocaust

By Jennifer Korducki
Wednesday, February 8, 2006

Last night, students, faculty and other members of the community met in the McCormick Tribune Center to discuss the background of Holocaust denial. The meeting was in response to Northwestern professor Arthur Butz's public endorsement of the Iranian president in claiming the Holocaust never happened. Students who attended the forum had plenty to say on the recent issue.

"It's different if I go out and write a book saying whatever I want; no one knows who Steve Silver is, says Steve Silver, a Medill sophomore. "But, Northwestern professor, no matter what the name is after that, that's all people will remember. Northwestern professor said this, and that looks horrible for the university."

"Professor Butz has every right to say what he wants to say, that's the liberty he has on the freedom of speech," says Stuart Loren, a Weinberg sophomore. "However, he works at a private institution at Northwestern, and I think Northwestern has the right to establish a certain set of what is acceptable behavior for their faculty."

Butz is a tenured professor whose views have been known for years. He published a book in 1976 and has posted his beliefs about the Holocaust on his Web site since 1996. He claims the Holocaust is a lie that was developed from the desire to create a Jewish state in the Middle East. In response to his claims, many people are challenging the university to take action.

"I think that would be something extremely positive and a positive message, says Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein, director of the Tannenbaum Chabad House. "On one hand, maybe we can't ask Arthur Butz to leave but we can definitely drown out his voice by having a positive program, positive voice saying yes, indeed the Holocaust did take place and these are the lessons that we can learn eternally from the Holocaust."

Title: "Harvard President Under Fire for Sexist Remarks" found here http://feminist.org/news/newsbyte/uswirestory.asp?id=8842

Harvard President Lawrence Summers is under heavy criticism for suggesting at an academic conference that women have less innate ability to perform in science and mathematics than men. He also downplayed the role discrimination and social factors play in explaining the dearth of female professors in science and engineering at major universities, according to the Boston Globe. Its so upsetting that all these brilliant young women [at Harvard] are being led by a man who views them this way, said Nancy Hopkins, a biologist at MIT and a conference attendee who walked out of Summers talk, according to the Globe. Summers has defended his comments, saying that he was merely suggesting that the role of discrimination and innate abilities of women and men in the sciences need further research, according to the Associated Press."

==============================
Rick McKinnon, Evergreen College College Professor would have you believe that he was merely suggesting that the use of racial slurs, derogatory slurs against women and slurs about the LGBTQ community are permissable in a classromm... and full justifiable when he decides to use them in his classroom.

Harvard President Lawrence Summers was later forced to resign and the first woman president of Harvard was elected, a monumental achievement especially in light of the fact that at one time Harvard was an all male University with no people of color as students or Professors.

Article Title: "Racist Professor in Texas shows his true self
Law instructor should resign, lawmakers say." Article found here: http://www.azteca.net/aztec/texas.html

Chicano lawmakers Thursday called for the resignation of University of Texas law professor Lino Graglia, who said earlier this week that racial diversity adds little to students' education and that blacks and Mexican-Americans come from cultures in which ``failure is not looked upon with disgrace.''
``He should not continue to represent the state of Texas or educate the future leaders of our state in one of our premier public institutions,'' state Rep. Hugo Berlanga, chairman of the House Mexican-American Legislative Caucus, said in a written statement. ``The fact that he and his opinions represent our tax dollars at work in a state as diverse as Texas is intolerable.''
Graglia's comments drew quick criticism from lawmakers, Chicanos, lawyers, Graglia's peers and University of Texas alumni statewide. State Sen. Carlos Truan, D-Corpus Christi, said he is asking minority caucuses in the Senate to urge that the professor resign.
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council No. 1 in Corpus Christi unanimously approved a resolution Thursday night demanding Graglia's resignation, and if he does not that the university use all available means to punish him.
``Graglia believes that minority students come from a culture of failure,'' the resolution said. ``He knows nothing of our culture and has never crawled down from his ivory tower to find out.
``His lack of respect for the students who sit in his classes is unacceptable. His contempt for our leaders is intolerable.''
About 50 of the law school's 60 professors issued a statement Thursday saying they disagree with Graglia's views, university officials said.
Graglia spoke Wednesday during the announcement of a new student organization that supports a federal court ruling outlawing race-based admissions policies in Texas. Graglia is a faculty adviser for the student group.
``Blacks and Mexican-Americans are not academically competitive with whites in selective institutions,'' he said. ``It is the result primarily of cultural effects. It seems to be the case that, various studies seem to show, that blacks and Mexican-Americans spend much less time in school. They have a culture that seems not to encourage achievement. Failure is not looked upon with disgrace.''
Graglia, who could not be reached for comment Thursday, has said it is unfortunate that a person can't object to affirmative action and racial preferences without being labeled racist. He also said he believes studies support his contention that minorities generally aren't competitive with whites, adding that the problem should be addressed at the elementary and secondary levels, not at colleges and universities.

Title: "FBI Probes New Orleans-Area Noose Case" found here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-7059696,00.html

Thursday November 8, 2007 3:16 AM [International Time which is different from local time]

By CAIN BURDEAU

Associated Press Writer

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The FBI is investigating allegations that a public works department supervisor displayed in his office two nooses, a bullwhip and a dart board with a black man as the bull's-eye, an agent said Wednesday.

A black worker went public with the complaints Wednesday, saying he was fed up with the racist symbols in his white superintendent's office at a sewage lift station in Jefferson Parish.

``I've been in this department 6 years, and when I got to the department they were there,'' Terrence Lee said.

Lee's superiors dismissed his concerns when he went to them, he said at a news conference in the offices of Danatus King, president of the New Orleans chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

``I know I'm going to get fired, but I have to stand up,'' Lee said.

Lee identified the superintendent as Bill Hartline. Tim Whitmer, a top parish administrator, said Hartline is a longtime employee.

No home phone listing for a Bill or William Hartline could be found.

King called on Jefferson Parish to remove all racist symbols from its property and fire any worker responsible for exhibiting racist symbols.

Officials in Jefferson Parish, a bedroom community of New Orleans, said in a news release that ``appropriate action'' would be taken. Whitmer said parish leaders learned of Lee's allegations only on Wednesday afternoon.

FBI agent Jim Bernazzani said he assigned the case to his civil rights division.

``We take these complaints very seriously,'' Bernazzani said. ``We're seeing if it rises to the level of a federal hate crime.''

The investigation will be based in part on photographs Lee took in 2005 of his superintendent's office. In them, the nooses dangle from a wooden contraption that reaches to the ceiling. A bullwhip hangs from a wooden post labeled as a whipping post. A black man stands at the center of the dart board, and his groin area makes up the bull's-eye.

Racial tension in Louisiana has been high after the case known as the Jena Six, in which six black teens were accused of beating a white student at a high school in the town of Jena. A noose was hung in a tree on campus not long before the attack.

In September, tens of thousands of people marched on the small central Louisiana town in one of the largest civil rights demonstrations in years.

A Real Revolutionary. (by Michael Lee Seliga aka RandoMike, a poem inspired by the AWBC 2006, which he attended)

To hear the full poem, recorded in Seattle at the House In the Woods activist community, a day before the 2007 A World Beyond Capitalism Conference, click 'listen' below. The text of the poem is below.

=====================================================================

-A real revolutionary-
by Michael Lee Seliga aka RandoMike
Just because ………………………………………………… does not make you a revolutionary

- you wear a Che shirt, or Travel around Latin America…
-have political bumper stickers on your Toyota Prius, or your Bio-Diesel truck….
- You Read or write zines, or Install the Linux operating system on your computer ……
- You’re a vegetarian, shop at the Co-op and reuse cloth bags….
-you ride a bike, dumpster dive, or do political theater
-you Rock climb, do Kung Fu, smoke herb, or get a vasectomy
-you live in a Collective House, compost food scraps, and make your own tofu
-you write poetry, play capoeira, or work on an organic farm
- you listen to folk music and wear flip flops, or hip hop and sport shell tops, or punk rock and have a Mohawk, or Reggae and got dread locks….
-You “damn the man”, Fuck the system, capitalism, Bush, or War…. …………..

Don’t-get-me-wrong. I consider the above good and support you doing them.
However, what is revolutionary to me…..

-is if your Toes are like roots of a mobile tree, which provide
you balance, strength and Patience;
you walk with a WIRY Resilience , Wily resistance,
and kick up dust with non complacence

-- Revolutionary to me is if your spine is built with of peace cranes, and your hips and legs are constructed out of titanium Slinkys.
-- Revolutionary to me is if You use one set of Fingers as sculpting tools to facilitate people’s negative comments into positive thoughts; and with the other you drop literal and metaphorical seeds so you propagate life wherever you flow.
-- Revolutionary to me is if your Rib Cage is not locked so your heart is free to inspire humble speech, which your Lungs bellow, in addition to harmony and thunder, the one depending on the situation
-- Revolutionary to me is if you use your arms to bridge chasms previously thought impassable…if you’re comfortable in your skin, as well as with other people’s melanin, and your chin is stuck up but your Nose is not.
-Revolutionary to me is if you are Fluent in three-year-old, if Truth emanates from your mouth constantly curled up; if your lips are puckered to deliver quick kisses or so you can whistle your theme song when having fun in the struggle.
-The shape and size of your ears don’t matter..…What matters is whether you Resist judgments and assumptions; whether you listen from your soul as intensely as a hummingbird flaps it’s wings because you know in the scraps of syllables and sounds is where aural nectar can be found
-Revolutionary to me is ….If you can see color and be color blind simultaneously, and although you have X-ray vision and can see sickness around you, you can also enjoy the beauty that surrounds you.
….. What helps you do this is that, tattooed on the inside of your eyelids, is “there is hope”….so even on the days when it’s hard to see, you still have visionary dreams.
-Revolutionary to me is if the glass on the windows [Eyes] to your soul is clear so when people look in they see….. fire
-if the lobes of your Brain are divided into Self-Respect and Focus, and if you move as though you’re a piece of art with divine purpose.

I am not trying to claim anything here.
The above are only criteria of what I hold to be revolutionary,
and allow me to move towards an ideal.
Because, yeah: I too want to be a real revolutionary

Nerve cells: Proactive words, n
Blood cells bring nourishment wherever they go Realize you’re not alone and that there are many other revolutionaries seeking for more of what past revolutionaries sought before.

Rout of a poem-
Thought, action, nerves llungs heart, mouth

If Proactive Attitude… telepathically assure the young ones that you’re looking out

In Love With You: Special Thanks to Everyone at the Health Care Justice Gathering 2007

Dear friends,

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone at the Health Care Justice Gathering 2007. A great deal of discussion, thought and emotions were shared. On the last night of the gathering, there was a wonderful party and we danced for hours and hours! :)

Most of the songs were fast-paced but one of the last two slow songs that played before the end of the party was titled: "In Love With You" by Erikah Badu and Ziggy Marley. That song is heard in this broadcast.

I dedicate it to everyone who attended the Health Care Justice Gathering and to everyone worldwide who continues to work for a better world.

Love for the people,
-T

Solidarity Announcement for "Imagine Seven", featuring the song 'Imagine' by 'A Perfect Circle'

“Before 9/11, the idea of terrorists taking down both World Trade Center buildings was considered 'unthinkable' for most people. Here's the 'unthinkable' scenario for global warming:

"Global warming will continue to cause the ice on the earth's poles to melt, triggering the Gulf Stream to migrate several thousand miles to the south, lowering by five degrees the average temperature in Europe and much of North America in 10 years or less.

"…Meanwhile, this abrupt climate change would unleash a series of monster hurricanes and floods across Central America and the Caribbean, making the 2,000 Haitians killed this September in a single storm seem like a minor event."

-A quote by Adam Werbach, formerly the President of Sierra Club, in a Speech given in December 2004, which was before Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita which both occurred less than 11 months later

-----------------------
Can You Imagine Preparing for Peak Oil and Global Warming by Creating a Self-Sustainable, Progressive Town with the Help of other Progressive Communities And Organizations?

"Imagine" by John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us...
...and the world will live as one.

Dear friends, family, pals, activists, zinesters, writers and visionaries around the world working for a better world,

Free Rent Community is now accepting submissions for Review.

Would you love to live in a world with free rent instead of unaffordable rent?

Free Rent Community is a people's empowerment publication and an online radio station/podcast. We will consider interviews with anyone else. Please feel free to contact us for consideration.

Eligibility Requirements for Submissions

Free Rent Community reviews zines (independently published magazines with no ISBN's or Bar Codes) and VHS and DVD videos (20 minutes or less) which are directly, indirectly or barely related to love, activism and/or creating a better world. We will not review anything that includes (or promotes) racism, sexism, homophobia, politicians, porn or long poetry (extremely short poetry is welcome). "Our strategy should be not only to confront empire, but to lay siege to it. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness -- and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we're being brainwashed to believe."
-Arundhati Roy, from the novel, War Talk

A World Beyond Capitalism is The Annual International Multiracial Alliance Building Peace Conference. A World Beyond Capitalism Team Radio is the podcast radio station made up of worldwide volunteers helping to organize that conference. The Radio Station Mission Statement: A World Beyond Capitalism Team Radio hopes to cover updates for the conference and for all other subjects which are directly or indirectly related to creating a better world. A World Beyond Capitalism Team Radio invites activists to come to Portland, Oregon in August 2006 and engage in a weekend of educational discussion and visionary dialogue during the conference. Volunteers will have monthly meetings and monthly fundraisers worldwide to prepare for this international conference of unparalleled access and outreach. We believe in the need to reflect and imagine the future of the world beyond capitalism. We will emphasize the need for multi-lingual, long-term strategy through open dialogue and bridging political theory with non-violent practice. By building on the increasing number of conferences worldwide in which people from diverse backgrounds, races and cultures discuss subjects regarding world peace, we hope to build solidarity among diverse organizing communities. Through love, solidarity and international outreach the unreachable is achievable: A World Beyond Capitalism. http://www.aworldbeyondcapitalism.org http://www.CommonUnityPeaceConference.org
