(Episode 142) Episode 3 of 3 from (much less) rainy Gaithersburg, Maryland. How much trouble can one bed-bugger possibly get into? Download and find out! (BTW, I was asked by the local security guard to vacate the area.) Understandable, since I was still idling on the curb after 11 pm, tapping into someone's wonderful high-speed WiFi. The guy was as nice as could be, so I kindly agreed to relocate to the shopping center down the block. Home sweet shopping center!

So Karen took some movies of Le Le as he wandered around his "day room", munching on bamboo leaves and posing for his fans. BTW, Pandas are constantly eating. Since bamboo leaves don't have much nourishment, Pandas have to eat about forty pounds of them each day. That's a lot of leaves!

2006-04-20 Atomic Poetry, part 2

(Episode 96) Parked at the Mayflower agent in Fayetteville, waiting for clearance on the shipment we came to deliver, I continue the discussion with comments on Quantum Entanglement, Dr. Michael Behe, Irreducible Complexity and a few other things that sound a lot more complicated than they really are. I share some simple but powerful ideas that you won't hear from the media, due to the biased coverage of certain topics. Here's an interesting quote that relates to these things:

"I actually regard quantum computers as being kind of poetic. You know, after you've talked to atoms for a while and get on their wavelength and learn to listen to what they're saying back, well, what they're saying has a certain strange and unearthly poetry of it's own. And indeed you might imagine trying to use a quantum computer to compose a poem that says many things at once. Except, in fact, poetry often does that. One of the beautiful things about poetry, of course, is that words have many meanings. And so, maybe we could say that poetry is already kind of quantum mechanical."

Seth Lloyd, author of "Programming the Universe: A Computer Scientist Takes On the Cosmos"
NPR's Talk of the Nation, Science Friday for 2006-04-07

(If atoms produce "a certain strange and unearthly poetry" of their own, is it a mistake to assume that there was some kind of Poet who created the atoms? -Ken)

2006-03-19 Seffner Florida

(Episode 88) It has been a day of surprises.

Surprise #1: A trojan virus infected the StartLogic server- affecting many websites, including ours.

Surprise #2: Oops. Forgot what surprise #2 was. So I fill time discussing the present shipment logistics.

Surprise #3: I remember what surprise #2 was. As I search for directions for Monday's load, I discover that Microsoft is trying to turn the tables on Google by changing their maps website to something that looks very similar to Google Local (maps).

Surprise #4: Coming to a podcast in the near future...

2006-03-08 Tornado Alley

(Episode 87) There's moist air from the gulf, warm air from the south, dry air from the west, and cold air from the north. And with a strong jet stream running through all of this, it's the perfect recipe for tornados. Guess what? We're headed straight for this stuff. Follow our hour-by-hour account as we risk life and limb to deliver the goods...

2006-02-09 Delaney Move

(Episode 82) Karen records some of the action as we deliver the Delaney's belongings to their condo in Ketchum, Idaho. It was a cold, beautiful day in this gorgeous winter sports paradise.

There were a lot of challenges, including a few pieces that we had to hoist up to the second floor balcony:

With the help of a couple of hard-working local guys, Mike and Chris, the move went very well. It was great working for Kim and Kevin, and we were glad to have helped them get their furniture moved to the new place.

2006-01-20 49er Truck Stop in Sacramento (day 8)

(Episode 80) Just a little chat to bring you all up to date on our wacky, zany adventures. I'm beginning to wonder if we should be leased to DIGBY (which stands for "Did I Go Broke Yet"?) Well, we've made it through slow winters before, and at least we aren't stuck in some snowy and/or icy wonderland up north. Did you know they actually sell real gold (from the ground) here at the 49er truck stop? And if you ever get a chance to grab some of their grub, check out the pork chili- it is the *bomb*!
